KAMPALA, Uganda — Kampala Queens FC etched their name into Ugandan women’s football history on Sunday after defeating reigning league champions Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC 2-0 to win the 2026 FUFA Women’s Cup at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba.
The victory delivered Kampala Queens’ first-ever FUFA Women’s Cup title and capped a remarkable season for a club that has steadily established itself among the country’s elite.
The final attracted several top football dignitaries, including FUFA President Hon. Moses Magogo Hassim, FUFA Second Vice President Dr. Azah Taibu, FUFA Executive Committee Member Deo Mutabazi, and Kitara FC Chairman Deo Kasozi, underlining the growing significance of women’s football in Uganda.

Ainembabazi Gives Queens the Advantage
The opening exchanges were evenly contested, with both sides showing discipline and intensity in a tactical first half. However, Kampala Queens found the breakthrough in the 38th minute when star forward Joanitah Ainembabazi finished clinically to put her side ahead.
The goal rewarded Kampala Queens’ attacking intent and handed them a crucial 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
During the interval, Margaret Namirimu of She Corporate FC, winners of the 2023/24 FUFA Women’s Cup, presented the trophy to supporters in attendance, adding to the occasion’s celebratory atmosphere.
Kawempe’s Response Falls Short
Kawempe Muslim Ladies emerged from the dressing room with renewed determination and dominated large periods of the second half. The multiple-time Ugandan champions created several promising opportunities and pushed numbers forward in search of an equaliser.
However, Kampala Queens remained resolute defensively, with goalkeeper Sharon Norah Kaidu and her backline standing firm under pressure.
As Kawempe committed players forward in the closing stages, Kampala Queens struck the decisive blow. In the first minute of stoppage time, Kamiyat Naigaga embarked on a brilliant solo run before calmly slotting home to seal a memorable 2-0 victory and spark celebrations among the Kampala Queens supporters.
