INTRODUCTION

Dagimawit Solomon is one of the brightest rising stars in Ethiopian women’s football. From humble beginnings in Wolaita Sodo to becoming one of the league’s most consistent goal scorers, her journey is defined by resilience, discipline, and ambition.

In this exclusive interview with The Voice of Women Sport, she opens up about her rise, her goals, and her vision for the future of women’s football in Ethiopia and beyond.

The Voice of Women Sport:
Dagimawit, welcome. How are you today?

Dagimawit Solomon:
Thank you. I’m doing very well and happy to be part of this interview.

The Voice of Women Sport:
This season, you’ve been one of the standout performers. What has contributed to your strong form?

Dagimawit Solomon
I believe consistency and hard work have been key. I train with focus every day and try to improve in every match. At the same time, my teammates play a big role. Football is not an individual sport—our success comes from working together.

The Voice of Women Sport
You’ve already scored 22 goals this season. Does this feel like a breakthrough year for you?

Dagimawit Solomon:
Yes, it feels like an important season in my career. I’m more confident and more focused than before. But my priority is always the team. If we succeed as a team, individual achievements will follow.

The Voice of Women Sport
Your journey started in Wolaita Sodo. Can you tell us how that experience shaped you?

Dagimawit Solomon
Growing up, I played football in difficult conditions, often with boys. It was not always easy, and there were challenges, especially in gaining support. But those experiences made me stronger and more determined. My coaches believed in me, and that gave me confidence to continue.

The Voice of Women Sport:
Who inspired you during your early years?

Dagimawit Solomon:
Players like Loza Abera inspired me a lot. Seeing successful Ethiopian female footballers made me believe that I could also achieve something in this sport.

The Voice of Women Sport:
How important is family support in your career?

Dagimawit Solomon:
It’s very important. At first, it was not easy, but over time my family became very supportive. They encourage me and motivate me, especially during difficult moments.

The Voice of Women Sport:
Looking ahead, what are your main goals for the future?

Dagimawit Solomon:
My goal is to help my team win major trophies and continue improving as a player. I also want to represent my country at a higher level and inspire young girls to follow their dreams.

The Voice of Women Sport:
Finally, what message would you like to share with young girls who want to play football?

Dagimawit Solomon:
I want to tell them to believe in themselves and stay committed. There will be challenges, but if you stay focused and work hard, you can achieve your goals.

Editor’s Note

Dagimawit Solomon represents the new generation of Ethiopian women footballers resilient, talented, and determined to succeed on the global stage.
